Website's back with 'Saving Perro Morro' up for review

WATKINS GLEN, New York - After some struggling with YouTube, Saving Perro Morro - the first full documentary production done by *subject2change Media - is up and posted for the world to see.

And, God-willing, it is posted below.

Earlier versions would not load onto YouTube, the error message being the film was just too darned long.

That seems to be solved with this version.

New projects under consideration are a film about Inergy's Plans to storage propane and natural gas in salt caverns under Seneca Lake and/or a film about the Farm Sanctuary's new hospital, just opened.

Also under consideration is a film about the wineries around Seneca Lake: 50 wineries in 50 hours, or some such foolishness.

New videos up for summer, 2011, music and weather dominate

WATKINS GLEN, New York, USA - *subject2change Media shot lots of footage and even published a few more videos in local newspapers during the summer months.

The biggest score was having the Elmira Star-Gazette pick up this video for publication on its website. It was a spot news piece.

Another video was a real learning experience, trying to shoot a musician - Delta Mike Shaw - and a band while performing at a wine event called Winestock 2011.
Mike Shaw

The lighting was bad, the acoustics almost as bad.

And the band? They were all great.

But to get good sound quality *subject2change Media is going to have to study up and perhaps gets some better sound recording equipment before the next musical gig.

And lighting is an issue, too. Perhaps in addition to a new computer for movie editing, some lights are in order.

Here's what did come out of the shoot at Winestock:

Another music video turned out better, an on the spot of Hayley Jane and the Primates. They played at a benefit for Team Reckless Abandon, part of car rally/race across Asia to raise money for charity, in which Hector resident Kathleen Schamel is participating.

Perhaps news photography and feature spot video come off easier.

Two new videos up, one tied to a news event

READING CENTER, Reading Township, New York, USA - In the last few days *subject2change Media has put up two videos and also published a story in the local Watkins Glen Review, Express & Observer.

Here is a link to the story:

Reading Planners shut down public comment

And below are the two videos.

In the next day or two, there will be a longer video, featuring the Cardboard Boat Races, scheduled to begin in about two hours.

And yes, I will be shooting with the big camera.

Always bring the big camera, always bring the big camera, always...

HECTOR, New York, USA - Monday night, out relaxing at the Rasta Ranch Winery, I heard Brett Beardslee (known locally as Uncle Bumpy) and Delta Mike Shaw, (known locally as Delta Mike Shaw) playing the blues and other tunes for a very appreciative crowd.

The big Panasonic video cam was home safe, still chock full of Zumba footage of Brenda Fitch (to be edited soon, I hope) and so I had to rely on the use of my handy Flip video.

It did a very credible job in a pinch. The results are below..

But the big cam is going to be traveling more.

Video and story about U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand posted

WATKINS GLEN, New York, USA - A second video (produced by *subject2change Media) has been posted by the Watkins Glen Review & Express and The Observer newspapers.

This time it was a fish-in-a-barrel shoot of a Democratic U.S. Senator visiting a local elementary school to see how well $170,000 in federal money is being spent to teach middle school kids about how to use new technologies, like the internet and wireless devices.

Most of the kids are way ahead of the adults in this case. But some aren't. And that's what the grant was all about.

But it was a pleasant event, with 25 or so local dignitaries on site, all wanting to shake the senator's hand.

And the senator? She seems genuinely more pleasant than most national-level politicians and very low key.

She arrived in the car to the right. Yes, it's a Volkswagen.

And unlike her California senatorial counterparts, (whom I am more used to writing about), Sen. Gillibrand travels with a handful of staff - and no giant security apes with earphones and packing automatic pistols.

First commercial sale of news video, with a story, too

WATKINS GLEN, New York, USA - The Watkins Glen Review and Express (which has a sister newspaper, The Dundee Observer) picked up a story and video, put together by *subject2change Media.

The package was published Thursday - a 650-word story and a 3.5 minute video with titles.

The video was a quick take of two meetings about a massive propane storage project that has most of the community's collective knickers in a twist.

This is a first for the newspaper, and a good test of editing skills for *subject2change Media. Several area newspapers have been approached with the idea of adding video, but this is the first bite.

Here is a link to the story (which has the video embedded).
